Training Starter Pair, 3 to 4 Plants
Reviews
What is in the box
- 40 BudClips® - One sleeve, in the color you pick. One size, no tools. $25.99 bought on its own.
- One BudHuggers® 50 ft (15 m) coil - The same color as your clips. Cut what you need. $9.99 bought on its own.
$35.98 of product for $32.99. You save $2.99, 8% off buying the same pieces separately.
Pots, soil, seeds and a tent are not in this one. If you need pots too, the Training Kit, 2x2 ft is the same clips and coil with five 3 gallon pots.
Who it is for
Forty clips is the pack almost everyone ends up on. A trained plant takes eight to twelve clips through veg if you are moving them as the branches thicken, so 40 covers three or four plants and leaves spares for the ones you reposition twice.
It is the same two items as the smaller pair. If you are running one plant, save the money and take the 20-clip pair.
How you use it
Bending
A BudClip goes over the main stem and the branch below it, and holds that branch at the angle you set. No knots, no tape, and you move it outward as the branch thickens. Interlock two clips when you want a full 180 degrees.
Topping, then clipping
Top between the fifth and sixth node once the sixth has appeared, then clip each new branch out to the side as it comes. Wait until the new growth is about 2 inches (5 cm) before you start bending it, usually 7 to 14 days after the cut.
Holding
Cut a few inches of wire, wrap it once around a branch, and hook the other end into a pot grommet or any fixed point. Later in flower the same wire ties heavy branches to each other so the tops hold themselves up.
Straight answers
Will a clip break my branch? Only if the branch has already gone woody. The wide mouth spreads the load across the bend instead of pinching one point, which is what snaps a branch when you train with bare wire. Bend green stems, go slowly, and take the clip off after about two weeks, three at the most.
Is 40 clips really enough for four plants? Yes, with room to move. Count eight to twelve clips a plant through veg. If you are filling a 3x3 or a 4x4 you want a hundred, and that is the Training Kit, 3x3 or 4x4 ft.
Is it worth it? $0.65 a clip here, against $0.80 on the 20-pack. The pair is $2.99 less than the $35.98 the sleeve and the coil come to at list today.

Where we use these
We wrote the guides first and built the products for them. These are the ones that use this kit:
- Low stress training - Bend first, clip it, and take the clip off after about two weeks.
- Topping - Where to make the cut, and what holds the branches open afterwards.
- Training - Topping plus continuous bending, from the first node to the flip.
Questions
How many clips does one plant take?
Eight to twelve through a full veg if you move them as the branches thicken. A plant you top twice takes more than one you only bend.
Which color should I pick?
It changes nothing mechanical. Yellow is the easiest to spot in a dark tent, black disappears in a photograph. Whatever you pick, the coil comes in the same color.
Can I use the clips once the plant is flowering?
No. Clips are a veg tool. Once the bud sites are set a new bend cannot add one, it can only risk the ones you have. The wire still earns its keep in flower, tying heavy branches to each other so the tops hold themselves up.
Can I use the clips on an autoflower?
Yes. Clips are a low stress method and an autoflower takes them from the third or fourth node. Keep bending gentle and do not leave a clip on past three weeks.
